November is Hip Hop History Month! Join us and QPL Hip Hop Coordinator (and music legend) Ralph McDaniels all month long as we start getting ready for hip hop’s 50th anniversary in 2023, and celebrate hip hop as a global force for culture, civil rights, and, of course, music! and recommends local governments build partnerships with local hip-hop organizations and communities as a way to support the development of music and arts.A picture from our 2017-2019 Queens Hip Hop Pioneers Photo Exhibit, curated by MFidel Photography. The resolution was introduced late last month by its sponsor Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and cosponsors, Senators Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.).Īs noted by The Hill, the resolution "encourages senators to plan celebratory activities that commemorate hip-hop's cultural influence in the U.S. "Hip-hop transcend many different ages, ethnicities, religions, locations, political affiliations, and socioeconomic statuses, which demonstrates the melting-pot quality of Hip Hop art and culture," the bill, which marks the first-ever resolution to recognize hip-hop as a whole, states.
On Monday (August 2), the United States Senate unanimously passed Resolution 331, a bill that officially designates August 11, 2021, as "Hip Hop Celebration Day" and November 2021 as "Hip Hop History Month."
